How's it going, Reader?

It’s been a truly uplifting Tuesday so far. Last night, I had a blast at rehearsal with my women’s chorus. It's a four part harmony chorus in the Dallas, Texas area.

We’re preparing for something big: the Sweet Adelines International Competition in Columbus, Ohio. This is only the second time our chorus has ever qualified in 50 years.

Still, the moment we received the invitation, imposter syndrome crept in.

Who am I to sing at an international competition?

I’m not a professional. I sing simply because I love it.

Singing has been part of my life since childhood, when I used to watch Disney movies like The Little Mermaid and sing along to every song. To this day, I can still recite almost every Disney princess lyric by heart.

I quickly realized I wasn’t the only one feeling this way. Many of the women in our group quietly admitted to similar thoughts.

Are we really good enough to be there?

Imposter syndrome is incredibly common, especially among women. We often second-guess ourselves, even when we've worked hard and earned our place.
