How's it going, Reader? It’s been a marvelous Monday...but yesterday? Not so much. I thought I should reveal this to you so you can be safe. I had a bit of a run-in with a scammer. I had automatic affiliate payouts turned on in ThriveCart for my membership, so affiliates could get their recurring commissions monthly. Unfortunately, someone took advantage of that setup. They signed up for my program and used stolen ccs to buy multiple yearly memberships. Thankfully, I caught it early Sunday morning while the purchases were still happening and was able to shut it down. The scammer used Stripe to make the purchases and got commissions automatically through PayPal. Luckily, I was able to get refunded by PayPal and filed a dispute for another transaction...but yikes. Lesson learned: never do automatic affiliate payments, no matter how much your affiliates ask for it. From now on, I’m paying affiliate commissions manually once a month, on the 15th, across all my programs. Just wanted to share in case you’re running an affiliate program too. Hopefully, this helps you avoid the same mess!
