🙌 Your customers don’t want more… they want easier

It's been a terrific Tuesday! If your marketing isn’t working right now, it’s so easy to default to:

  • “I need to post more”
  • “I need to send more emails”
  • “I need more content on my site”

It's because when you’re trying to grow a business in the margins of real life (kids, errands, dinner, and a calendar that refuses to chill 😅), more content feels like the most obvious lever to pull...even when it’s the wrong one.

Real talk: 9 times out of 10, it’s not a content problem, it’s a UX problem. 👀

Let me take you back to my corporate days for a second when I was working at Verizon as the lead UX designer, we had a head honcho who kept telling us we needed more content in the store.

His reason was because the user testing feedback “wasn’t good enough” for him, and while I understood his concern, I also knew in my bones that piling on more “stuff” rarely fixes what’s actually broken.

So instead of adding extra fluff (because nobody wants fluff, they want clarity), we anaylized the store in a design thinking session and walked through it like a brand-new user would, and it became painfully obvious, very quickly, that the experience wasn’t intuitive.

The people weren’t struggling because they needed more information, they were struggling because the store wasn't easy enough to purchase from.

We didn’t add any extra content!!

Instead, we tweaked the store user experience to make it easier to use and understandable for a new user and then we ran another user test, and the difference was night and day.

Suddenly the feedback was full of positivity, confidence, and “oh wow, this is easy,” which proved something I wish every business owner would tattoo on their brain:

More content isn’t always required...sometimes you just need a better experience.

Because here’s the thing: your customers don’t want more… they want more specific, better-placed content that they can consume easily without thinking, squinting, scrolling, hunting, or playing detective to figure out what you’re selling and what to do next. 🕵️‍♀️

So before you commit to another week of “content grind,” I want you to check the two things that quietly make or break conversion:

#1 Is your website fast?
If your site loads slowly, people bounce! Make sure to run your homepage (and your checkout page) through Google PageSpeed Insights, and treat anything that’s dragging as a conversion leak you get to fix.

#2 Is your checkout stupid-easy? 🛒
Can someone land on your site, understand your offer, add to cart, and checkout without having to think hard, second-guess themselves, or dig around for answers?

If you’re not sure, consider connecting Hotjar, because it lets you see the actual user journey on your site and shop.

You can literally watch recordings of people visiting your site and moving through your content, which means you’ll spot the hesitation points (the “wait, what?” moments), the rage clicks, and the drop-offs that no amount of extra posting will fix.

And that’s why I’ll say it again, lovingly but firmly: 9 times out of 10, you don’t need more content...you need better UX to get more sales. 💰

Here’s the bigger positioning piece too (for my implementers): when you fix the foundation first, then you can layer on AI-powered automation that follows up, personalizes, and nurtures in a way that scales, instead of depending on you to constantly create more, post more, and hustle harder just to keep the lights on.

Implementers fix the experience and then automate the growth.
Dabblers keep adding noise on top of a confusing path.
